Flowdrilling – Thermal friction drilling on milling machine

These tubes only have a thickness of 4 mm and require tapping of threads. However, 4mm is too little to provide sufficient strength. With flow drilling, the material is deformed and pushed through the tube, which extends the wire length to 8 mm and thus a much stronger connection can be made. For this problem, other applications such as press-in nuts cannot be used because of the high temperature in the oven where these parts are mounted. Flow drilling is also used when drilling and tapping in more difficult material. These are tubes in 316 Ti, drilling and tapping in this material causes a lot of wear on the cutting tools and a large tool cost. We counteract this with special flow drills and taps. 💯
